	Revealing new dimensions of museum experiences.
	The CSMVS Mumbai, formerly Prince of Wales, is considered to be one of the top 3 museums in India. In a phase of reinvention spanning a decade, CSMVS is on its way to becoming a groundbreaking cultural centre in the country. 
To launch their Centenary Celebrations in January of 2022, we were commissioned to design an exhibition for a recently bequeathed Thanjavur collection. We collaborated with their curatorial and conservation team to craft a unique experience that would leverage phygital storytelling to build an immersive journey for every visitor. A first for the museum and ourselves.

	Appreciating Every FacetWe worked closely with the conservation and curation teams to 
gain a deeper understanding of the art forms' history, cultural significance and techniques. Thanjavur, a temple town, is considered the cultural cradle of South India, having nurtured Architecture, Performing Arts and Painting Traditions for over 2000 years. Entrenched deeply in the cultural consciousness of the region, it is relatively unknown in other parts of the country.&#38;nbsp; 

We understood the art form’s journey from prominence to obscurity and back, over its 400 year evolution. As well as understanding how it fits within the storied history and cultural milieu of the city itself.
We realised that this story was astonishingly complex. A complexity compounded with the weaving of the museum’s role as the guardian of its hallowed past. We delved deep into how collections are bequeathed to Museums, how they ensure the careful conservation and maintenance of these rare pieces. We wanted to pay homage to its roots but also bring forth the confluence of the art form, the museum and its patron. To unfold a journey of discovery and enchantment that would continue long after the exhibition is seen and felt.

	Refining the sketch
Our experience creation began with the realisation that any exhibition is a culmination of various perspectives, the&#38;nbsp; most important being the creator and the viewer or visitor. And how the collection, its story and the museum’s efforts are perceived, imbibed and educate the latter. A confluence of numerous dimensions.
Ironically, when taking inspiration from this particular art form, what stood out to us is how the godlike subjects are brought to life in three dimensional relief through the layering of rich materials. We played with these core ideas of Dimensionality and the Divine, weaving together the aspects that brought alive the exhibition, from the collector, to the collection’s curation and conservation. Finally allowing us to craft ‘Three Dimensions of Divinity - Thanjavur Art Revealed’. A name that built intrigue and authenticity, becoming a unique idea that is cohesively expressed in myriad ways, physical and digital throughout the space.





	The Final Piece
Tanjore paintings mainly portray Hindu deities. The style involves rich colours and is renowned for its inlay work with glass beads, semi-precious stones and gold foil. The layering of these elements is what creates the beautiful three dimensionality that brings forth subjects into sharp relief.To translate this beauty and heritage of the art form to visitors,the exhibition experience has been crafted as thoughtful interventions that will allow visitors to appreciate its craft, creation process, heritage and cultural significance.

	A multilingual logo, an ode to the past and practicality
We crafted a dynamic logotype based upon the ‘Layering of Thanjavur Paintings.’ A multi-dimensional rendition that consists of 7 Latin variations. Complimented by Devanagari and Tamil versions. Each is handcrafted and brought alive through animated sequences.

	Each is handcrafted and brought alive through animated sequences.

Creating a sense of movement whether in its static or motion avatars. THREE acts as the main device that playfully discloses the exhibition name in multiple ways, embodying the exhibition's essence with a fascinating reveal. 





	
	The bi-scriptual decisions were led by 2 factors. First,&#38;nbsp; the CSMVS caters to an audience that uses the Devanagari script as their primary form of communication, whether in Hindi or Marathi.&#38;nbsp; 

Second, while observing the conservation process, we discovered that the Tamil script is subtly integrated into the paintings. It appears in old Tamil newspapers that cover the back panelling. The script thus pays homage to the culture that birthed the art form.

	A riot of coloursOur 16 colour palette drew inspiration from the paintings distinctive and beautiful riot of colours. To create an entire spectrum from primary to tertiary ensuring compliment and contrast. A vivid range of colours, carefully selected to allow the art to remain the highlight while creating an atmosphere within the gallery and beyond that transforms the visitor into a unique world of its own. Truthful, evocative and contemporary. 






	
	
	


	
	Three times the charm

The logo idea is the base in constructing the entire design system. From a unique 3 column and a diagonal baseline grid, fashioning every design expression.&#38;nbsp; 





	
	
	

	
	Crafting a singular journey

The curation team had divided the exhibition into 3 sections. The entrance is dedicated to the collector. Followed by&#38;nbsp; three rooms, each interestingly charting the journey of the art form’s rise, fall and subsequent revival. And ending with the Museums role as conservators and rightful guardians. 
We patterned the user journey by creating a unique narrative based on THREE - Collector, Collection and Conservation.

	Collector

The opening section pays homage to the collectors endeavour to collect and preserve the art form for over 30 years. He accrued regional art pieces that either inspired or were inspired by Thanjavur art. Offering a unique glimpse into the shared heritage of South Indian art.

	Collection

Collection, focused on the artforms evolution through 47 paintings, broken into three sections. Divine Inspiration contained imagery and avatars of Gods and Goddesses.
Epics Retold featured paintings that relate to stories and characters from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.

Earthly Abode showcased a range of subjects, primarily portraits of Kings, Poets and Saints that played vital roles in Thanjavur art’s history, to the art form’s modern evolutions.

	Supergraphics, heralded the start of a new chapter in the journey,&#38;nbsp; intelligently weaving the angles of walls. To compliment the paintings, adding a new dimension to bridge tradition with modernity.

	The wall leading into the Collection featured an immersive installation that uncovers the art form’s unique layered process. Each step in the creation of a Thanjavur painting was laid bare, contextualising traditional techniques with modern practices. Providing visitors with a deeper appreciation for the pieces.


	
	Conservation
Playing ironically with the concept of ‘what goes unseen’ visitors see our logo’s THREE on the front of the accordion wall. On the reverse, as they exit, is an homage to the conservation efforts that made Three Dimensions of Divinity possible.

Their exceptional work was impossible to capture via a singular medium. A video showcasing their process leads visitors into an infographic that contextualises the intricacies of the steps taken into a single visual. Finally, detailed animations highlight the remarkable restoration to canvas, paint and frame for three paintings where extensive damage seemed to simply melt away and reveal the painting in its original glory.




	
	Historic grandeur reimagined
To create a cohesive journey, we recaptured the grandeur of Tanjore temples by integrating larger than life interventions in the&#38;nbsp; glorious museum architecture. 

11 foot translucent scrolls greet visitors in the corridors. The natural play of light and wind, add its own dimension of ethereal beauty.

	Providing context is an imperative part of art appreciation. We created an interactive medium to narrate the art form’s rich history through phygital storytelling. A combination of a ‘Making of’ video and a thoughtfully designed timeline, translates Thanjavur’s story and creation process on a single wall.

The success of the exhibition brought in continued appreciation from the museum team and its patrons alike. Designing a community for breast cancer support 

	Shell win is a family run breast cancer foundation, in Agra, India. Named in memory of their daughter, Shelly, they aim to create awareness and offer support for early detection, prevention and care. The family needed a digital first, social media focused branding, to build national outreach and establish first contact with potential members, targeting an urban audience aged 24-45. An initiative close to our hearts, we have designed the brand as a service that focuses on rallying a strong community of affected families. The identity is crafted as an all encompassing conversational system that eloquently acts as the brand narrative. Compassionate and courageous, insightful and lighthearted, Shell win has become a truly one-of-a-kind cancer support community in India that has been recognised globally.

	Understanding Every Facet

Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in India. While it is the most treatable, a majority of cases present only in the latter stages and the affected age group is getting younger, with some as young as 25. Lack of awareness, coupled with inadequate support systems makes the journey extremely traumatic for patients and families. Overabundant medical avenues and conflicting communication are overwhelming and confusing. Across socio-economic sections, misinformation, social taboos, emotional triggers, and psychological challenges abound. Collectively causing a devastating effect on the journey before, during and after treatment. 
We gleaned the brand’s insight from those affected by breast cancer, who need a supporting space where they can simply be. To be heard if they feel like, participate when they want to and partake in everything that provides them a sense of normalcy.


	
Refining the Sketch
Available research shows that greater support from a community or social networks, improves quality of life for patients. Advice must come from those who truly understand the journey. Our conversations with families revealed that the treatment process, from diagnosis to remission, is in itself more debilitating than the disease. Affecting not just the patients but their families too. This insight led to a fundamental shift in the proposition. Transitioning from only offering free medical services and financial assistance, we envisioned the brand as a safe space. A community of support for affected families, by affected families that encourages intimate, honest conversations.This insight fit perfectly with the family’s vision, as it captured Shelly’s own belief and brave approach during her decade long battle with cancer. Her journey further inspired us to imbue the brand with a ‘win’ing spirit.

	The final piece

The brand name is inspirational and effortlessly captures the winning spirit. We envisioned a conversational identity, to carry this spirit forward in every brand interaction. The phonetic essence of Shell and win works in unison with our messaging, to inject a sense of upliftment into every conversation.
The serif font for the logo was chosen as an ideal embodiment to narrate heartwarming stories. The ink trap detailing is inviting for open and safe conversations. Flexible to integrate into all communications, it builds comfort and reliability. 
And informs the key typography style for most of the brands communication templates.

	The type palette
The primary typeface comprises the logotype family and is used as the critical communication device. The san serif secondary font compliments with titles, sub headers and as a supporting device.

	A new type of acceptance
Our bespoke font creation hopes to normalise the changes that come with breast cancer. Rounded and wholesome, it is characterised to be soft, caring, and accepting - in scars visible or invisible. Every alphabet exemplifies the idea of loving yourself, no matter your shape or social expectations.

	The font acts as a typographic visual. It is used to craft visually powerful and verbally insightful messages. The letters of our bespoke font are used to accentuate a message. Evoking a sense of innocent joy.

The brand is designed to bring more positivity, energy and joy in its community. While the primary colours take their inspiration from the shade of the breast cancer ribbon. The secondary colours accommodate the familiarity of the pink while complimenting by adding vibrancy and cheerfulness. Helping the brand bring difficult conversations to the fore.

Building a community of conversationsFrom our very first conversations with affected families, we understood the importance of building every aspect of the brand around their needs. Shell win would have to evolve and respond to issues they faced when dealing with the disease, from diagnosis through to post treatment care. 
	



	
	Before we were brought on board, the group was focused on providing medical and financial aid to families. The seminars they conducted revolved around cancer, treatment and ways to manage finances for the same. They were mainly educational and did not result in a lot of audience participation.We looked to reinvigorate the existing activities through the lens of the values we crafted. To build the ideas of caring and support, we focused on bringing on board palliative care and alternative pain management experts. Women who had been through cancer themselves- either as patients or as caretakers - and understood all too well how those they were speaking to were feeling.

	Not only did their lead at our webinars result in more meaningful conversations, these inspiring women also provided us with further insight into all that&#38;nbsp; Shell win could provide to truly make a difference in the lives of those it serves. On their advice, we began online and offline activities that involved fun games, arts and crafts. A way for members to be open with each other and share their individual passions and hobbies. A time for them to celebrate little victories and support each other in activities beyond treatment.We also wanted our community to feel empowered in every way, so we began to let them dictate monthly activities and sessions. Online polls and messages on our WhatsApp group invited them to share their preferences or in certain cases even step up to lead sessions on baking, art or reiki. 



	
	All of this was supported by our digital communication which acted as a first point of contact for potential members. Content was carefully crafted to be accurate, engaging, inspiring and an invitation to join in our community of open honest conversations. &#38;nbsp;On a platform of their choice and comfort, from intimate groups on WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook or through personal connections with whoever they feel comfortable with in the community.&#38;nbsp; Creating a safe access spectrum&#38;nbsp; to deal with everything from diagnosis to moving beyond the treatment.

	



	
	A growing community of careMeaningful communication, insightful activities and a genuine purpose have led to Shell win becoming a unique support group for those affected by breast cancer in India. Individuals and families reach out to the group, privately, as anticipated, glad to find an intimate space. Where they can share their thoughts, fears, dreams and hopes, and find the support they need. The support community has grown to include over 300 experts, warriors and survivors, each of whom&#38;nbsp; voluntarily act in service across a range of needs. &#38;nbsp; Rural outreach in the State of UP is currently centred around the city of Agra. A first step has been to educate and create awareness camps. Over 500 women have benefited from the&#38;nbsp; free mammography service. 
As the group expands its outreach both online and offline,&#38;nbsp; its ambitious aim is to alleviate detection in the late stages by educating and empowering women and men. And support in reducing India’s alarming statistics of a woman being diagnosed every 4 minutes with the disease and a woman losing her life to the disease every 8 minutes

	Started in 2008 Infinium Solutionz was a truly pioneering venture by two visionaries. Armed with the insight that the future of IT lay in big data, machine learning, automation and specialty products, they focused on harnessing the power of disruptive technologies to improve processes across industries. From urban solutions to agriculture, logistics to e-governance their innovative use of geospatial engineering, wireless communication and IoT sensors caught the attention of business and public leaders.
In 2018, they were looking to expand out of their home state of Gujarat to improve the lives of citizens across the country and around the globe. This began with changing their name from Infinium Solutionz to Amnex. We were commissioned to help build a comprehensive brand narrative and communication style. Our new design language and insightful messaging strategy propelled business growth, while garnering international recognition.




	Appreciating Every FacetIn the last decade the Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a strategic agent of change across industries, by blending the physical and digital worlds. Making ‘things’ smarter and connecting them to each other creates new value. From wearables, to cars, home appliance, industries and cities, everything will be connected to create a smarter world for its citizens. The visionary founders at Amnex, were at the forefront of leading this change in India. 

Having built the first smart city in India they were looking to capitalise on new opportunities for industries, cities and enterprises to benefit from their disruptive solutions. To truly understand the science and artistry behind their offerings, we conducted intense, immersive workshops with their leadership team, technology executives and their audience. Our study of how their solutions seamlessly integrate the physical and digital worlds led to the core idea that would not only guide but also simplify their brand narrative, to be understood by their core audience.



	


	
	Refining the sketch
While diving into their history, solutions and the industries they serve we came across a key insight. Amnex wields the power of technology to impact life positively. They are change-makers that are transforming the environment of businesses, urban&#38;nbsp; spaces and infrastructure to create a smarter world through seamless evolution. Their solutions are intuitive, dextrous and beneficial. Just like nature.
Nature takes every action to improve all that it encompasses, as does Amnex with an intelligence that is natural.

The logotype was selected and modified to highlight the future-first technological roots of the brand. However, it was the visual brand language we crafted that truly transformed Amnex into a living breathing brand. Truly capturing the insightful, instinctive and intuitive intelligence that sits at its core.

We wanted the design language to be as intelligent and intuitive as the solutions that Amnex provides. Each design is carefully thought through. Imagery and content, type and motion behavior merge seamlessly to convey the intent and meaning as a whole, whether in motion or as a still.

Disruptive technology lies at the heart of Amnex’s offering. The solutions they provide create a better future for the lives they touch. The use of vibrant colours represents the disruptive, enriching properties of the brand.

As change-makers that are constantly creating, innovating and implementing the latest technologies, it was imperative that audiences understand how their solutions could make a positive difference. We crafted a series of phygital posters where messaging, motion and design were woven together to translate the impact so eloquently that they were awarded a silver at Graphis 2019.

	Mangoes and memories united glocally.

	Innoterra, a Swiss-Indian agri-tech company is on a mission to build a more sustainable food ecosystem. It empowers farming partners by enabling growth, transitioning towards regenerative practices and the sale of traceable farm produce through an established global network.
As an extension of this mission, we were commissioned to build their first collaborative endeavour. A Konkan-based farmer led Alphonso brand that would herald the king’s genuine authenticity - from soil to soul. Our strategic exercise has readied the business to effectively transition from its current pilot stage, this summer, into a fully realised brand.

	Appreciating every facetDespite growing one of the most prized fruits in the world, the Alphonso farmer remains unsung. Helpless against trade practices, climate change and a growing mis-appropriation of its Geographic source. The category is unorganised with ‘brands’ being either very small, local or supermarket-led. 
Innoterra hopes to resolve this dynamic by addressing this power imbalance by connecting the farmers directly with consumers. Fulfilling a clear market gap by establishing a singular brand to become synonymous with alphonso in the national and global markets.

	Audience Tastes
Early consumer scans showed that Alphonso's appeal remains localised to Maharashtra, adjoining states, and&#38;nbsp; select global markets. To understand mindsets, from selection to purchase, meaning and relationship, we conducted extensive interviews, both domestic and international. 
By focusing on those who consume annually, as well as those who had never experienced it,&#38;nbsp; we identified a clear brand opportunity -&#38;nbsp; To awaken the world and the rest of India, by pitching Alphonso as a life-changing fruit, to elicit a response: “If its mango, it better be Alphonso’ and a guiding insight.



	Refining the SketchWe conceived the Brand’s concept based on our all-embracing research. We fathomed that culturally, the Mango has an ethereal and mystical quality in India. A rare fruit that evokes a powerful sense of nostalgia. Adding magic to everyday life. Making you want to pursue these superlatives, to the farthest corners of the world and beyond.

Combined with a shifting consumer desire to experience genuine, healthy and sustainable food experiences, led us to create a narrative that leverages this sense of nostalgia to unite consumers and producers through the Alphonso. Making them ‘One with Aam’, or together with mangoes.

	 The Final piece
Our identity construct stemmed from the Mango’s mystical and nostalgic essence. To unfold a Brand story that is rooted in establishing a consumer connect with the fruit’s source - ‘From the finest orchards of Konkan’s hardiest farmers, we present the heartiest ‘original’ Alphonso mangoes; cared for and hand-picked, for your otherworldly union with God’s own fruit.’ Arriving at the Brand’s Positioning - a ‘Divine union with God’s own fruit’.

	We crafted the logo as a combination of a logotype and a logomark, based on a modern serif that is bold and organic. E and k are conjoined to form ‘Ek’, birthing a mark, united in form and meaning, within and without the logotype. Moreover ‘Ek’ also extends itself as a simple signifier of the brand across mediums. In an always-on omni-channel world, brands are omnipresent and need an identity approach with a unique digital heartbeat. Where each design element has a clear purpose, the ability to be a bite sized-messenger, ubiquitous in part or as holistic communication across the omni-channel gateway.

	Drawing on nostalgic nature
Childhood summers in India were defined by the sweet flavour of the Alphonso, joyfully scarfed down during two short months. This joy is represented through a vibrant colour palette, soulfully complemented with pastel shades, to infuse nostalgia. The fruit’s lost authenticity is reaffirmed through serif fonts that provide a genuine touch to the story.



	The illustration style is reminiscent of joyful childhood drawings, dualistic in nature to connote the Brand’s transformative nature. To other worlds. To your childhood and its memories of perfect aams. To the orchard and its region. From farm to fork. Always one with aam. In unity it represents mangoes so fresh, it feels as though they’ve been plucked directly from the tree.

	Packaging
Alphonso has for generations been home to rustic packaging. Yet opening these cardboard boxes were filled with little rituals. Snappin the twine ties that hold the flaps down. Eagerly rifling through the straw within which these golden treasures were hidden. 
Ekyaam’s packaging takes inspiration from these rustic rituals to create an experience that is revolutionary for the category. Our earthy organic colour palette draws the eye away from the riot of usual reds and yellows. The illustration highlighting the connection between the customer and the farmer is united around the organic logotype.

	The enveloped card within each box builds on the story of authenticity. The wrapper within, surrounding the mangoes and carefully sealed with a sticker, is an elegant reinterpretation of pulling away bundles of hay to uncover the coveted fruit within. Every element of the packaging weaves memory and mystery to create a pure Alphonso experience.
